Xreal Eye launching soon, bringing 6DoF tracking to Xreal One

The Xreal Eye, which will launch in June, is an accessory that adds a camera and 6DoF tracking to the Xreal One glasses.

The Xreal One and Xreal One Pro glasses connect to a smartphone, game console, PC, or Mac via a USB-C cable. They project content onto a virtual 1080p display that floats in front of you. The Xreal One has a 50-degree field of view, while the Xreal One Pro has a 57-degree field of view. This is equivalent to viewing a 70- or 85-inch TV from two meters away.

You can find more details about these devices in our in-depth article on the Xreal One and Xreal One Pro.

Currently, the display glasses only support 3DoF tracking. This means that the glasses can detect head rotations, but not spatial movement. As you move around the room, the virtual display moves with you instead of remaining in a fixed position.

Xreal Pro gets an optional upgrade to camera and 6DoF glasses

The Xreal Eye accessory is designed to change this and add spatial 6DoF tracking to the display glasses, Xreal announced at a launch event in Japan (see below).

The accessory weighs just 1.5 grams and is inserted between the lenses. In addition to 6DoF tracking, Xreal Eye can be used to take photos and videos with up to 12 megapixels. A review will have to show how good these images and the 6DoF tracking are.

Shipping of the Xreal Eye is scheduled to begin in late June. The price is $100. At the moment, the accessory is not yet available for pre-order on the official website, but this should change soon.

While the Xreal One glasses have been available for a while, the Xreal One Pro is still not. According to information on the Xreal Store, the company expects to begin shipping the first batch of orders in late April, and they hope to fulfill all existing pre-orders by the end of May.
